Widely used blood pressure drug linked to ‘substantially increased risk’ of skin cancer

Quick Links: For more information about the Foundation and the issues covered on this website, please visit the following links:

New research from Denmark has found that use of hydrochlorothiazide, a diuretic drug widely prescribed for high blood pressure, substantially increases the risk of developing skin cancer. Based on the analysis of around 80,000 Danish cases of this disease, the research shows that, compared to 1.5 million healthy people not taking the drug, patients taking hydrochlorothiazide had up to seven times greater risk of developing squamous cell carcinoma, one of the most common forms of skin cancer. With this drug having already been strongly associated with lip cancer, the research adds to the growing body of evidence pointing to the considerable dangers it poses to public health. It is no secret that stress has a direct impact on our health. Experiencing stress for short periods of time is normal, of course, and the body is designed to deal with it. Thousands of years ago when our ancestors went out hunting wild animals, their levels of cortisol (a stress hormone that speeds up our reactions and makes us more alert) were only high for short periods of time and soon returned to normal. But in today’s high-stress world, things are very different. When cortisol levels remain too high for too long, they can be extremely harmful to our health. Find out more here

Shocking New Data On Pesticides In Food Presented At London Conference

Good to know: What is a vitamin? What is Cellular Health? What is Nutrient Synergy?

Dr. Matthias Rath:

Shocking new data presented at a recent Royal Society of Medicine conference in London shows that the number of toxic chemicals used on UK supermarket vegetables has risen by up to 17-fold over the past 40 years. Based on an analysis of pesticides applied to wheat, potatoes, onions and leeks, the figures strongly contradict industry claims that the totals have supposedly halved since the 1990s. Commenting on the results, Dr. Michael Antoniou, head of the gene expression and therapy research group at King's College London, said: “All this evidence shows that you should minimize your exposure to pesticides.” Echoing the growing worldwide interest in natural approaches to food production, he added: “The ONLY way to guarantee that is by eating organically.” Find out more here

When he discovered the cause of the bacterial disease puerperal fever (also known as “childbed fever”), Hungarian physician Ignaz Semmelweis (1818-1865) made possible the saving of millions of lives. During his own lifetime, however, while trying to get his medical breakthrough accepted, he faced an enormous amount of opposition. Not only was Semmelweis discredited by his colleagues and the medical authorities of the time, even his wife and close friends eventually began to distance themselves from him. Nevertheless, in the years following his death, his findings went on to replace the entrenched ideas of the scientific and medical establishment, eventually becoming fully accepted.

Professor Edzard Ernst: A Career Built On Discrediting Natural Health Science?

Professor Edzard Ernst, a retired German physician and academic, has recently become a prominent advocate of plans that could potentially outlaw the entire profession of naturopathic doctors in Germany. Promoting the nonsensical idea that naturopathic medicine somehow poses a risk to public health, Ernst attacks its practitioners as supposedly having been educated in “nonsense”. Tellingly, however, given that he himself has seemingly not published even so much as one completely original scientific trial of his own, Ernst’s apparent attempts to discredit natural healthcare approaches are largely reliant instead on his analysis or review of handpicked negative studies carried out by others. Open Letter by Dr. Matthias Rath to Chancellor Angela Merkel

I am writing this letter to you because the issues at stake are a matter of life and death for millions of people throughout the world. The German government’s actions play a major role in determining whether these people live or die. Scientific breakthroughs in the field of natural health enable mankind today to rid itself of some of today’s most widespread epidemics, including cardiovascular disease and cancer. The next great goal uniting all mankind is the termination of these epidemics and making them largely unknown in future generations. Find out more here

Major Setback For The Biotech Industry: Insects Rapidly Developing Resistance To GM Crops

A major new scientific assessment of crops that have been genetically modified to produce pest-killing poisons has found that insects are rapidly developing resistance to them. Published in the Nature Biotechnology journal by researchers from the University of Arizona in the United States, the study examines 36 cases looking at how insects react to the crops. Significantly, as of 2016, the data shows a dramatically reduced efficacy of the poisons in 16 cases, with early warning signs in a further 3 cases. This represents a dramatic increase from the mere 3 cases of resistance that had been observed by 2005. Overall, resistance or early warning signs of it were found in a majority (19) of the 36 cases examined. Find out more here

Clinical trial shows magnesium supplements may be an alternative to antidepressant drugs

A recent clinical trial conducted in the United States has found that magnesium supplements are effective in the treatment of mild-to-moderate depression. Published in the PLoS One journal, the researchers showed that daily supplementation with magnesium leads to a significant decrease in depression and anxiety symptoms regardless of a patient’s age, gender, baseline severity of depression, or use of antidepressant drugs. Noting that magnesium works quickly and is well tolerated, the study concluded that it may be a safe over-the-counter alternative to pharmaceutical medication. Find out more here

How The Trillion Dollar A Year Pharmaceutical Industry Rigs The Results Of Its Studies

During the past century, the pharmaceutical industry has spent vast sums of marketing money promoting the idea that its products are scientifically proven. So successful has it been in implanting this impression into the public consciousness that generations of doctors and patients have lived their entire lives believing the primary motivation for drug companies is improving human health. Not only is this belief demonstrably untrue, but the studies carried out to supposedly prove the efficacy of the pharmaceutical industry’s products are habitually rigged. Find out more here

Pharma Lobbying Judges To Put Opioid Addicts On $1,000 A Shot Injection Programs

With the United States caught in the asphyxiating grip of an opioid addiction epidemic that is expected to kill over 60 thousand Americans this year, evidence is growing that the pharma industry is seeking to maximize its profiteering from the situation. According to a disturbing report from ProPublica, the biopharmaceutical company Alkermes has been marketing its $1,000 a shot opioid addiction injection, Vivitrol, directly to judges. As a result, by presenting opioid addicts with the stark choice of either going to jail or joining an injection program, drug courts have helped annual sales of Vivitrol rise by almost 700 percent since 2011, reaching a total of $209 million in 2016. New Scientific Review Adds To Mounting Evidence Linking Deficiency Of B Vitamins With Depression

The findings of a new scientific review have added to the mounting evidence linking B vitamin deficiencies with depression. Published in Maturitas, the official journal of the European Menopause and Andropause Society, the researchers note that low levels of B vitamins are common in patients with depression and that supplementation with these nutrients has been shown to improve depression outcomes. Consistent with the key principle of Cellular Medicine, namely, that the primary cause of today’s most common chronic diseases is a long-term deficiency of vitamins and other specific nutrients, the review helps point the way towards safe, natural approaches to controlling this common mental health problem. Royal Pharmaceutical Society In Britain Confirms Cholesterol Theory Of Heart Disease Is “Dead”

With drug industry profits from statins collapsing, a new scientific review published in the Pharmaceutical Journal – a publication of Britain’s Royal Pharmaceutical Society – has added fuel to the fire by confirming the cholesterol theory of heart disease is now “dead”. Pointing out that the lives of heart attack survivors participating in pharma-sponsored statin trials have been shown to be extended by an average of just 4 days, the authors say there is an “ethical and moral imperative” for the potential harms of these drugs to be discussed. Significantly, however, they wrongly conclude that the real culprit behind cardiovascular disease is insulin resistance. In other words, while they are 100 percent correct that the cholesterol dogma is scientifically unfounded, they have failed to correctly identify the root cause of cardiovascular disease. Brussels EU Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker Denounces EU Parliament As “Ridiculous”

It’s not very often that I find myself agreeing with the Brussels EU Commission President, Jean-Claude Juncker. However, this week was one of those extremely rare occasions when I found myself in complete agreement with him. Speaking at a session of the EU Parliament that was reviewing the six-month European Council presidency of Malta, the construct’s smallest member state, Juncker observed that only around 30 of the Parliament’s 751 members were present and openly denounced the institution as “ridiculous.” Frankly, if challenged to think of a word that more perfectly summarizes the farcical nature of this Parliament, I could hardly have selected a better one myself. A Powerful Mind: The Huge Impact Of Inner Beliefs On Human Health

In 1955 medical researcher Henry Beecher, MD, published a study about a previously unknown field of medicine suggesting that beliefs can sometimes have a deeper impact on the human body than chemicals. In the study, one hundred medical students were divided into two groups of fifty. Each participant was asked to take a pill. One group received a red pill, the other a blue one. The participants were told that the red pill contained a powerful stimulant, and the blue one a tranquilizing drug. However, what they didn’t know was that the contents of the pills had been reversed. Contrary to what the students had been told, the red pill contained a barbiturate and the blue one had amphetamine in it. Find out more here

Over 70 Years Of Studies Show Vitamin B2 Helps Control Migraine: Why Are Patients Still Being Kept In The Dark?

A new scientific review confirms that vitamin B2 (riboflavin) is a safe therapy that has demonstrated efficacy in reducing migraine headaches in adults. Published online in the Journal of Clinical Pharmacy and Therapeutics (JCPT), the study examines a total of 11 clinical trials involving doses of up to 400 mg per day. Describing riboflavin as a “promising therapeutic modality in the prevention of migraine headaches,” the researchers say further studies should be conducted to “refine its optimal therapeutic position.” But with over 70 years already having passed since studies first demonstrated this vitamin’s ability to help control migraine headaches, why are patients still being kept in the dark about it? A groundbreaking new report has sent shockwaves through the world’s major oil producers by forecasting that, within just 8 years from now, every new vehicle manufactured will be electric. Written by Stanford University economist Professor Tony Seba, the report suggests that as people start to switch from car ownership to on-demand driverless electric vehicles the resulting crash in oil prices will lead to the collapse of the petroleum industry. Stating that “we are on the cusp of one of the fastest, deepest, most consequential disruptions of transportation in history,” Seba predicts that the coming revolution will end over 100 years of individual vehicle ownership and, in the process, reshape the world’s energy economy. Brussels EU Regulators Blatantly Ignoring Toxic Effects Of Pesticide Cocktails In Foods

Analyzing over 84,000 samples, the report misleadingly declares that more than 97 percent of those examined had chemical residues which are within the amounts permitted by Brussels EU legislation. Clearly intended as health propaganda to convince the public that the insect-killing poisons sprayed on their foods are safe for human consumption, the publication blatantly ignores the toxic amplifying effects that combinations of pesticides can have when present together. Hospital Food And Nutrition Classes In Medical Schools: Can You Work Out What The Connection Is?

Some eye-opening research analyzing the dietary habits of National Health Service hospital staff in Scotland last year revealed that, in a typical working day, doctors and nurses manage to consume only two of the officially recommended five portions of fruit and vegetables. Carried out by the Royal Voluntary Service, a volunteer charity organization, the study additionally discovered that 29 percent of hospital staff eat just one portion of produce daily, with 41 percent consuming one or none. Aside from the matter that even eating five portions of fruit and vegetables a day still arguably gives insufficient levels of nutrients for optimum preventive health, the findings provide a good illustration of why bottom-up reform of our healthcare systems is essential. Pressure Growing For War Criminal Tony Blair To Be Brought To Justice At The International Criminal Court

On 14 June, 2003, the Dr. Rath Health Foundation submitted a formal Complaint to the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague. A 36-page document, the Complaint detailed genocide and other crimes against humanity committed in connection with the pharmaceutical business with disease and the Iraq War. As we stated at the time, the charges brought before the ICC concern crimes that are among the worst committed in human history. Despite their shocking gravity, however, George Bush and Tony Blair, the chief perpetrators named in the Complaint, have thus far managed to evade justice. In the case of Bush, given that the United States is not a party to the statute that established the ICC, a case against him currently seems unlikely. As for Blair, however, while he still retains formidable political influence, the campaign to send him to The Hague is growing and is far from over. Find out more here

In 2005, reporting on the results of the world’s first community vitamin program, we held a conference in Johannesburg, South Africa, and described how a combination of vitamins and other micronutrients can safely control the symptoms of AIDS and improve patients’ quality of life. Had this scientific finding been implemented into global healthcare systems by now, millions of lives could have been saved. Instead, the officials behind the annual World AIDS Day campaign, held on 1st December each year, continue to avoid any mention of it. Find out more here

Fake News And Pharma: Hiding The Truth About Health With Lies About Drugs The Ministry of Peace concerns itself with war, the Ministry of Truth with lies, the Ministry of Love with torture and the Ministry of Plenty with starvation. These contradictions are not accidental, nor do they result from ordinary hypocrisy; they are deliberate exercises in DOUBLETHINK. For it is only by reconciling contradictions that power can be retained indefinitely. – George Orwell, Nineteen Eighty-Four

As the outcome of the recent U.S. presidential election reverberates around the world, the mass media is conducting a witch-hunt against so-called ‘fake news’ websites whose influence it claims affected the result. In manipulations reminiscent of the ‘Ministry of Truth’ in George Orwell’s classic novel Nineteen Eighty-Four, lists are being published of sites supposedly publishing fake stories; videos are lecturing us on how we can apparently spot them; and demands are being made for search engines and social media platforms to diminish their reach. Seemingly, after decades of producing dumbed-down fake news itself, the media is worried that its viewers and readers are beginning to turn away and think for themselves. Find out more here

Successful Anti-Ageing – Be Younger Than Your Years

Jack LaLanne was an icon of fitness. He showed that age was no limit to physical performance. He became famous for swimming from Alcatraz to Fisherman’s Wharf while handcuffed and, at the same time, pulling a thousand-pound boat! He did this when he was 60. At age 70, he towed seventy boats carrying 70 people through Long Beach Harbor while handcuffed and shackled. He passed away at the grand age of 96 and performed his daily workout routine right up to the day before he died. Find out more here

Jimmy Wales Admits Free Access To Health Knowledge Has Strict Limits On Wikipedia

Like others in the natural health community, our Foundation has long realized that Wikipedia functions as a vehicle to influence and control public opinion worldwide. As we have learned over the years, any positive scientific information on natural health approaches that gets posted on the online encyclopedia is quickly removed. If you’ve ever wondered where this dictatorial policy ultimately comes from, you need look no further than Wikipedia’s founder and self-styled “spiritual leader”, Jimmy Wales. Find out more here

Bad News For The Pharma Cartel: Statin Profits Collapsing, The Cholesterol Bubble Has Burst

In a press release on November 1st, Pfizer, one of the world’s biggest pharma companies, announced it was scrapping its high-profile experimental cholesterol drug bococizumab. Citing studies showing adverse reactions and the chemical’s ineffectiveness, the drug maker concluded that the candidate injection product was “not likely to provide value to patients, physicians, or shareholders.” In plain English, this means it doesn’t work and that investors couldn’t make money from it. With global sales of statins and other so-called ‘lipid regulators’ having now fallen more than 32% over the past 5 years, the announcement provides further evidence that the pharma industry’s multibillion dollar ‘cholesterol bubble’ has burst. Alchemy of Power: The Pharma Industry — Its History, Its Drugs, And How It Manipulates The World

During the Middle Ages, knowledge about the healing properties of plants mainly came from druids and witches. These people knew about nature and healing and could treat health problems such as inflammation or small wounds with simple mixtures of leaves and herbs. But this eventually made them a threat to the Church. Find out more here

In Praise Of Garlic And Lemon Juice, And Recalling The 2009 Coup D’état In South Africa

A new study has found that a simple combination of garlic and lemon juice reduces cholesterol levels and improves blood pressure. Published in the International Journal of Preventive Medicine by researchers from the Isfahan University of Medical Sciences in Iran, its findings remind us that the growing interest in natural food-based therapies is a threat to the trillion dollar a year pharmaceutical business with disease. With the health-promoting properties of lemons and garlic having been publicly scorned by pro-pharma interests in the past, the publication of this clinical trial in a PubMed indexed journal effectively ridicules the ongoing disinformation campaign against natural health approaches and the character assassination of politicians and scientists promoting them. European Consumer Lobby Group BEUC Exposed: Supported By Currency Speculator George Soros And The Brussels EU

In a recent report, European consumer lobby group BEUC calls on the Brussels EU to increase regulations on food supplements in Europe. Absurdly claiming that consumers are supposedly exposed to “potentially serious side effects” when using them, it demands the harmonization of European law to cover all types available. But while BEUC attempts to portray its analysis as trustworthy and independent, the fact is that, over the last financial years, the lobby group has been supported by billionaire currency speculator George Soros and the Brussels EU. Starvation on a full stomach Why it is time that kids learn a new way to eat… The youngest patient ever diagnosed with Diabetes Type 2 was five years old and lived in Germany. His diet was based on white bread, fizzy drinks, cheeseburgers and chocolate bars. His parents, both severely obese, claimed that they couldn’t feed him anything else as he would refuse to eat it. The doctors explained that the eating habits of the entire family had to change immediately, or else they were risking their lives. Their sugar intake was far too high, making their bodies acidic and causing multiple inflammations. The excess body weight had already severely damaged their joints. Find out more here

The Global Healthcare Crisis Isn’t Due To Lack Of Funding, But To Ineffective Therapies

It is sometimes said that one definition of insanity is doing the same thing repeatedly and expecting a different result. I was reminded of this just recently upon reading a report about the UK’s National Health Service (NHS) being unable to provide a seven-day-a-week service under its current funding and staffing levels. The world’s fifth largest employer with over 1.7 million staff and an annual budget of £116.4 billion (US$148 billion), the NHS is said to be on the brink of collapse. With its junior doctors having resorted to strikes and legal action over new contracts, and costs set to rise to £133.1 billion (US$169 billion) over the next 5 years, I couldn’t help but conclude that the continued reliance on synthetic drug-based treatments and failure to consider alternative health approaches borders on insanity. World Heart Day 2016: Promoting The Illusion That Deaths From Cardiovascular Diseases Can Be Prevented With Drugs

For the past 16 years, September 29 has been declared as World Heart Day. Initiated by the World Heart Federation (WHF), a non-governmental organization based in Geneva, Switzerland, the supposed aim is to spread awareness about the prevention of heart disease and stroke. Supported by a range of partners that include multibillion-dollar corporations from the pharmaceutical and medical device industries, along with members representing some of the world’s most influential organizations in the field of orthodox cardiology, the WHF portrays itself as leading the global fight against cardiovascular diseases. In reality, however, while it noted in 2010 that low vitamin and mineral levels increase the risk of cardiovascular problems, it continues to promote the illusion that these diseases can be prevented with drugs. Microsoft Claims It Will ‘Solve’ Cancer Within 10 Years, But Omits To Mention Its Primary Cause

In a recent announcement, software giant Microsoft claims it will 'solve' cancer within 10 years by 'reprogramming' diseased cells back to a healthy state. In a post on the ‘Microsoft Stories’ site, writer Allison Linn describes how the company’s scientists, engineers, and programmers are trying to use algorithms and computers to figure out new treatments for the disease. But behind all the media hype, the reality is that Microsoft – like the drug industry – is apparently ignoring cancer’s primary cause. Find out more here

Brussels EU President Jean-Claude Juncker’s ‘State Of The Union’ Address: Fiddling While Europe Burns

This week, Jean-Claude Juncker, the unelected president of the European Commission – the executive arm of the Brussels EU – stood up in the European Parliament to make his so-called State of the Union Address. Essentially portraying himself as Europe’s equivalent to US president Barack Obama, in whose country an official annual address or message has been given by every elected president for over 200 years, Juncker began by stating that the Brussels EU is facing an existential crisis. Study Shows Chemotherapy Killing Many Cancer Patients Within 30 Days Of Starting Treatment

In yet another damning indictment of the dangers and ineffectiveness of cancer drugs, new research carried out in the UK has found that, in some hospitals, within 30 days of starting treatment, chemotherapy is killing up to 50 per cent of patients who receive it. With even the normally pro-pharma British media expressing shock and saying patients should be warned about the dangers of these toxic chemical treatments, the study provides further evidence that the credibility of chemotherapy as a cure for cancer is collapsing. Forced Medical Treatment and Military Experiments with Toxic Chemicals: A Century-Long Criminal History

The BBC recently published a report describing how dozens of people who were child patients at a British psychiatric hospital in the 1960s and 70s say they were experimented on with a “truth serum”. As the report describes, the experience has left the victims with disturbing memories and unanswered questions. For anyone assuming that criminal experiments conducted by or on behalf of pharmaceutical, chemical, or other interests ceased after those carried out by Nazi doctors and the German IG Farben Cartel during WWII, the evidence clearly shows this is not the case. In fact, during the past century, such experiments have been far more commonplace than most people realize. Find out more here

Goldman Sachs Hires Former Brussels EU Commissioner José Manuel Barroso: A Deal Hatched At Bilderberg?

Multinational investment bank Goldman Sachs recently announced it had hired José Manuel Barroso, the former president of the Brussels EU Commission, as an advisor and nonexecutive chairman of its Goldman Sachs International arm. With Goldman Sachs accused by many people of helping set off the 2008 global financial crisis and then profiting from it by defrauding investors, Barroso’s mercenary acceptance of the appointment predictably attracted widespread outrage. Interestingly, however, despite the extensive media reporting, little attention has been paid to the fact that the road to Barroso’s new job may have begun at a meeting of the clandestine Bilderberg Group. Drug-Induced Nutrient Depletion: One Of The Pharma Cartel’s Biggest Secrets

A new study has added to the mounting evidence that long-term use of antiepileptic drugs is a significant risk factor for vitamin D deficiency. Published in the Epilepsia journal the study found that despite living in the tropics where sunshine is plentiful, a high proportion of Malaysian children with epilepsy are at risk of vitamin D deficiency. Carried out by researchers at the University of Malaya, the study raises serious questions regarding the continued failure of our healthcare systems to address the issue of drug-induced nutrient depletion. Positive Media Reports On Natural Health Therapies: Still The Exception, Not Yet The Rule

A recent article in the UK’s Daily Mail newspaper described how a doctor who had suffered from multiple sclerosis (MS) for 17 years finally beat the disease and became symptom-free after following a simple 7-step plan based on natural approaches. Centered around dietary and lifestyle changes, including the use of supplements, the article described the program as being “hailed by MS experts as a life-saving breakthrough for the disease.” It’s only a shame that articles like this are still relatively rare in the mainstream media. Consequences of BREXIT: Demise of the ‘Brussels EU’ – Rise of a ‘Europe for the People, by the People’

On June 23, 2016, the people of Great Britain voted to leave the ‘Brussels EU’. This decision was a historic victory for democracy and the first step towards creating a better Europe. Moreover, despite how sections of the European and global media are already trying to portray it, this was not a victory for xenophobia or racism. It was a vote by a majority of concerned British citizens who refuse to allow the dictatorial construct in Brussels to determine all aspects of their lives. The result was a resounding victory of democracy over corporate dictatorship. Find out more here

Dr. Rath Research Institute study: Cause for increased risk of heart attacks in patients taking Calcium Channel Blockers identified: Decreased collagen production impairs artery wall cells

A scientific study conducted at the Dr. Rath Research Institute shows that commonly used prescription medications classified as channel blockers (widely used for management of high blood pressure, arrhythmias, angina pectoris and other conditions) can lead to deprivation of vitamin C inside the cells. These findings published in the American Journal of Cardiovascular Disease (June 2016, Vol. 6, No. 2) now explain the reason behind increased risk of heart disease, breast cancer and gum problems reported in many clinical studies with this class of drugs. Most significantly, the study addresses how to overcome this deficiency with vitamin C therefore providing scientific advice for millions of doctors around the world. Find out more here

New Studies Provide Damning Evidence Of Orthodox Medicine’s Inability To Treat Heart Failure

New studies presented at Heart Failure 2016 and the 3rd World Congress on Acute Heart Failure, which recently took place in Florence, Italy, provide damning evidence of the continued inability of orthodox medicine to prevent and treat this debilitating cardiovascular problem. With one in three heart failure patients still not having returned to work one year after being hospitalized for the first time, and one in four developing the condition within four years of suffering a first heart attack, it is clear that orthodox approaches are not addressing the primary cause of this disease. The Skyrocketing Price of Cancer Drugs: The Pharma Cartel’s Desperate Gamble

Whichever way you look at it the cost of cancer drugs is reaching dizzying heights. As the Washington Post pointed out this week, the $10,000-a-month cancer drug has now become the “new normal”. Today, because of this outrageous profiteering, the Pharma Cartel makes more money from cancer than any other health problem. But with awareness growing that non-patentable natural approaches to controlling the disease now exist, the skyrocketing price of patented cancer drugs is increasingly a desperate gamble. Australian Coroners Court Finds Pharma Drugs Involved In More Fatal Overdoses Than Heroin

An alarming new coroners court report has found that pharmaceuticals were involved in around 80 percent of overdose deaths in the Australian state of Victoria last year. Revealingly, while the deadliest illicit drug cited in the report was heroin, which contributed to a total of 168 deaths, pharma drugs played a role in almost double this number, at 330 fatalities. With urgent calls now being made for a realtime prescription monitoring system to be set up in Victoria, the implication that, nationally, thousands of Australian lives are being lost each year to pharmaceutical overdoses has been described as a national catastrophe. Our Official Video Messages for World Cancer Day 2016

The World Health Organization – the WHO – has proclaimed February 4 as world cancer day in order to promote worldwide awareness for one of the big unresolved problems of mankind – the epidemic of cancer. While every effort to create worldwide awareness about the need to end this epidemic should be applauded, there are serious doubts that the World Health Organization is able to help accomplish this goal. Why? Today, almost one third of the money financing the WHO’s operations comes from multinational pharmaceutical companies. As ‘return’ for this ‘investment’ into the WHO, the drug industry expects a huge ‘return on their investments’ from this world body. Thus, the WHO is no longer independent but its programs and activities – including ‘world cancer day’ – essentially turn into marketing campaigns for patented chemical drugs. Find out more here

Pharma Drug Trial in France Results in Brain Damage and Death

A recent medical trial in France has left one person dead, three others with possibly irreversible brain damage, and a grim reminder of the dangers of drugs. The study, carried out by Biotrial, a pharmaceutical research firm, was using healthy volunteers to determine the maximum tolerability of an experimental painkiller manufactured by Bial, a Portuguese drug maker. In return for their taking part in the two-week test, the volunteers are said to have each been paid a fee of 1,900 euros (US $2,070). With two more men also said to have been hospitalized, and all six participants having taken the drug at the highest dosage used in the trial, the outcome has been described as the worst tragedy of its kind to have taken place in France. Freedom of speech and the communication of truthful scientific information In George Orwell’s classic novel Nineteen Eighty-Four, Winston Smith, the main character, defines freedom as being the right to say that two plus two makes four. “If that is granted,” he says, “all else follows.” In a notable parallel to Orwell’s observation regarding the nature of totalitarian regimes, government restrictions on our right to communicate the scientific facts about natural therapies impose senselessly strict limits on what we can and cannot say. But when, eventually, we reach the point that these constraints on our freedom of speech no longer exist, so far as our goal of Health for All is concerned all else will inevitably follow. German Protestant Church promotes vitamin-rich nutrition in developing world: Recognition of Dr. Rath Foundation’s work in global fight against hunger and disease All truth passes through three stages. First, it is ridiculed. Second, it is violently opposed. Third, it is accepted as being self-evident. -- Arthur Schopenhauer.

In a welcome development, we were recently pleased to learn that the German Protestant Church has begun promoting vitamin-rich nutrition for the developing world. Previously better known for its advocacy of toxic antiretroviral (ARV) drugs for HIV and AIDS in poor countries, the church’s ‘Bread for the World’ campaign is calling for an end to undernourishment and malnutrition. Significantly, its public recognition of the important roles micronutrients can play in the prevention of diseases came only two months after the recent annual conference of the Dr. Rath Health Alliance in Koblenz, Germany. At that meeting we notably reported on the latest progress of the Movement of Life’s ‘End Heart Disease: Plant a Fruit Tree’ campaign, with particular reference to its relevance in the developing world, as well as the roles of vitamin C and other micronutrients in the prevention of cardiovascular disease. Micronutrient deficiency: A global problem that requires a globally sustainable solution

Image: By Kounosu (Own work (own picture)) [GFDL or CC BY-SA 3.0], via Wikimedia Commons

An eye-opening report in The Times of India recently described how 75 percent of the Indian population are believed to be deficient in several key vitamins. Summarizing a study carried out across four different areas of India, the article explained how alarming levels of vitamin deficiency have shown up among the country’s population. Notably, therefore, in an unexpected parallel, an awardwinning analysis of the American population has found that not only do large portions of people in the United States have too low an intake of micronutrients, they are not even obtaining sufficient amounts when using dietary supplements. As such, with the primary cause of today’s most common chronic diseases now known to be an inadequate supply to our bodies of essential micronutrients, taken together these two studies confirm that micronutrient deficiency is a global problem that requires a globally sustainable solution. Launch of our End Heart Disease – Plant a Fruit Tree campaign Wednesday 15 July saw the official launch of our End Heart Disease: Plant a Fruit Tree campaign. A Movement of Life global project coordinated by the Dr. Rath Health Foundation, its aim is to educate people how heart disease is caused by a long term lack of vitamin C. The inspiration for the campaign is Dr. Matthias Rath’s scientific discovery about the development of heart disease, published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States in 1990, and the inverse relationship between its incidence and our intake of vitamin C. Don't listen to the media: Micronutrient supplementation can enhance immune function and suppress infection

Barely a week goes by these days without a media headline telling us that antibiotic resistant “superbugs” have become one of the world’s most pressing health concerns. Declaring that we stand on the threshold of the post-antibiotic era, such news stories try to frighten us into believing that, by the middle of this century, superbugs could be killing millions of people every year. Notably, however, whenever the question is raised as to what alternative approaches might be available for controlling infections, no mention whatsoever is made of the key roles played by essential micronutrients in the proper functioning of the immune system. Heart disease confirmed as an early form of scurvy! Scurvy (also known as the “Sailors’ Disease”) is a condition resulting from a complete bodily depletion of ascorbic acid (vitamin C). It is a fatal disease characterized by a slow dissolution of connective tissue throughout the body, including the walls of the blood vessels. This disease was quite common in earlier centuries, especially among sailors whose diets were deprived of vitamin C. During long voyages at sea many sailors died within months from tremendous blood loss. Today, fully developed scurvy is rare; however, subclinical scurvy is very common especially in the elderly, infants, children on special diets and people with poor dietary habits. Our Study Proves That Heart Disease Is Linked To Vitamin C Deficiency Heart attacks and strokes have consistently remained the leading causes of death. Atherosclerosis, the underlying cause of these diseases, results in 17 million deaths worldwide each year. Yet, high blood cholesterol levels, a fatty diet and obesity have been blamed as the causes of heart disease. However, cutting down dietary fat and the artificial reduction of blood cholesterol with cholesterol-reducing medicines have not been successful in addressing this issue. Atherosclerotic plaques occur primarily in the coronary arteries rather than in the entire 60,000-mile-long vascular system. The absence of plaque in the veins, and the fact that animals do not suffer from atherosclerosis while humans do, cannot be explained by conventional medicine and the cholesterol theory of heart disease. Cancer is not just pure ‘bad luck’ By Dr. Aleksandra Niedzwiecki, Dr. Rath Research Institute
