TROOP 883 TRIP PERMISSION SLIP Cycling on the C&O Canal

Friday, September 12 – Departing at 6 PM from SJCC o SPL/ASPLs/PLs/QMs report at 5:15 PM o All others report no later than 5:30 PM  We will leave no later than 6 PM! o Eat dinner beforehand!

Sunday, September 14 - Arriving at 1 PM at SJCC REMEMBER: Scouts will be dismissed when all of the Troop and Patrol equipment is stored properly.

This is a Patrol cooking outing! Patrols will plan their own menu (including these meals: Cracker Barrel for Friday/Saturday, breakfast on Saturday/Sunday, lunch on Saturday, and Saturday dinner). We will not be bringing Patrol boxes on this outing. Think of this as a “backpacking” outing on bikes. You will carry your gear and your food in a small backpack or on your bike. Plan accordingly. You will need to bring either a bike lamp or a flashlight you can wear on your forehead. We will be biking though the Paw Paw tunnel (a 10 ½ on the scale of “cool things to do”). Distance and camping location will be determined by the PLC as the date of the event gets closer.

What to Bring:

Wear your Activity (Class “B”) Uniform with the red wicking shirt. You will wear your Activity Uniform for the entire weekend. Dress appropriately for the weather.

Please take time before the trip to make sure your bike is ready for this outing.

Approximately $15 (based upon netting the trip cost to $0)

Due Date:

Registration is due via the RSVP site no later than Monday, August 25, 2014

Cancellation Date:

Regardless of the reason: registrants who have not cancelled by the end of the Troop meeting August 25, 2014 will be charged the full trip cost.

Adults are needed to accompany the group and provide transportation. We will need more adults than usual to transport bikes (on our trailers) and to shuttle vehicles from the starting point to the end of the trail. Adults will not necessarily need to bike in order to help on this outing.

C & O Canal Historic Trails Program Scouts will earn the center patch, and may earn a Rocker/Rockers (depending upon the section of trail that is chosen).
