From the Pastor We continue our journey through the sixth chapter of Saint John’s gospel known as the “Bread of Life Discourse”. You’ll remember that last week we read the great miracle of Jesus multiplying the loaves and fish feeding some five thousand. At the end of the gospel passage Jesus withdraws to a secluded space because the people who had just been fed wanted to carry him off and make him king. Sounds good at first glance but as we’ll read today they didn’t really want his lordship, just free food for life. When the people who had been fed see that Jesus is not there they decide to track him down. “And when they found him across the sea they said to him, “Rabbi, when did you get here?” Jesus answered them and said, “Amen, amen, I say to you, you are looking for me not because you saw signs but because you ate the loaves and were filled. Do not work for food that perishes but for the food that endures for eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you. For on him the Father, God, has set his seal.”” Here’s the lesson for today. Frequently we find ourselves trying to make life easier and more efficient. And though there is nothing inherently wrong with that, Jesus asks us to set our sights higher than just what pertains to our life on earth. You’ve probably heard the correction given to a person who is caught daydreaming, “Get your head out of the clouds.” In this instance I would suggest to you the opposite. Maybe we should put our heads in the clouds a bit more frequently to fulfill what Saint Paul says in his letter to the Colossians 3:1-4, “If then you were raised with Christ, seek what is above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. Think of what is above, not of what is on earth. For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ your life appears, then you too will appear with him in glory.” Not wasting our day in fantasy, of course, but spending time meditating on and thinking about those things of Heaven where we alone find meaning, truth, beauty, and satisfaction. May I encourage you to learn one new thing about the Lord and his Church everyday? Read the Bible or the Catechism of the Catholic Church every day and when you find something you did not know stop. Think about this new revelation and then give thanks for it. Whenever you meditate on the mysteries of God you are indeed being fed with the Bread from Heaven, Jesus Christ.

A SECRET The secret of happiness is to count your blessings while others are adding up their troubles. —Anonymous

— Juan 6:27a LECTURAS DE LA SEMANA Lunes: Martes:
