How to read Hindi written with English Alphabets We need to know how to read and pronounce Hindi from Hindi written with English alphabets. The explanation and examples given below will help, to a great extent, to read Hindi with correct pronunciation. In English language pronunciation of same vowel differs when it comes with different alphabets. In Hindi, pronunciation of vowel remains same with each alphabet. We give below examples of each vowel where pronunciation of the same vowel differs when it comes with different consonants: Hame yah jaanane kee jaroorat hai kee Enligh akSharoN meiN likhee Hindi ko kaise paDhanaa hai. Neeche diye gaye udaaharaNo aur vyaakhayaa ko samajhane se kaafee had tak sahee uchchaaraN ke saath Hindi paDhane meiN madad milegee. Angrejee meiN swar kaa uchchaaraN alag akShar ke saath alag ho jaataa hai. Hindi meiN swar kaa uchchaaraN har akShar ke saath ek samaan rahataa hai. Neeche har swar ke udaaharaN diye gaye haiN jahaaN usee swar kaa uchchaaraN alag vyanjan ke saath alag ho jaataa hai. Pronunciation of 'A' in Cab, Ban, Man, Fan differs with Car, Par, Bar, Law, Saw. Prounciation of 'E' in Pen, Den, Men, Ten differs with Per, Her, Jerk, Dew, New. Pronunciation of 'I' in Bill, Nill, Chill, Pin differs with Bird, Chirp, Pile, Mile, Dire. Pronunciation of 'O' in Do, To, differs with No, Go And Son, Done differs with Sony, Dope. Pronunciation of 'U' in Cup, Tub, Pub, Fun differs with Tube, Cube, Pull, Put. In Hindi language, the pronunciation of each vowel remains same with each alphabet. Hindi language is more easy than English. Important Points 1. In Hindi language, consonants can be written half or full like ' , ,

,

/

' - ka, k, chakkan, sambandh.

a) The first alphabet is written full. b) Second alphabet is written half. It is single and not a part of any word hence a mark of Halant is added below the consonant. c) Third example is a word. It contains both half and full consonants. When a half consonant is to be written in a word, next consonant is written immediately after that without putting any vowel. In the word 'chakkan' first 'k' is half as second consonant 'k' is written without putting any vowel. Consonant 'n' is full as no consonant has come after that. The last consonant of word is pronounced fully except the consonant 'N'. 'N' written in capital at the last of word is used both for half consonant ('N' & 'M') and full consonant ('NA' e.g.GuN, GaN). d) In another word 'sambandh' consonants 'm' and 'n' are half as next consonants have come without putting any vowel after them. In Hindi language, half consonant -'n' and 'm' can be written by putting a dot (bindee) above the line like it is written in the example. Pronunciation of half written consonant/alphabet is also half and full alphabet is pronounced fully. In writing Hindi with English alphabets, to differentiate between use of half or full consonants, we have written 'a' after the consonants (where another vowel is not required) for its full pronunciation (Exception -the last consonant of the word). 2. Double 'aa' is written to give pronunciation of ' ' - 'aa' (English word 'Bar' has the pronunciation of 'aa' hence for Hindi it is written 'Baar') and single 'a' between two consonants will help in making full sound of the consonant come just before 'a' e.g. paDhanaa - 'Dh' is pronounced completely and 'aa' is added after 'n' hence it will pronounce 'naa' 3. Vowel 'e' after the alphabet in the words will give sound of ' ' - 'e' like English words - Sent, Debit, Credit, Sentiment and in Hindi words - Khel, Se, Ne, Le, Lekin. 4. Kindly pay attention on the alphabets written in capital (d,D, dh, Dh, t, T, th, TH, N, S). Capital alphabets give different sound. In English the first alphabet of each sentence is Capital and for Hindi also we have used capital alphabet for the first alphabet of the sentence. 5. Exceptions: Names & English words which we use in the English - These are written as we write them in English. Other exception words are given in the table.

MahatvapurN Bindu 1. Hindi meiN vyanjan aadhaa bhee likhaa jaa sakataa hai aur pooraa bhee jaise ' ,

,

,

/

' - ka, k, chakkan, samband.

a) Pahala vyanjan pooraa likhaa huaa hai. b) Doosara aadhaa likhaa huaa hai. Yah akela hai aur kisee shabd kaa hissaa nahee hai isaliye vyanjan ke neeche Halant kaa nishaan joDaa gayaa hai. c) Teesara udaaharaN ek shabd hai. IsameN dono aadhe aur poore vyanjan shaamil hai. Jab ek vyanjan shabd meiN aadhaa likhanaa ho tab agalaa vyanjan usake turant baad binaa kisee swar lagaaye likhaa jaataa hai. Shabd 'chakkan' meiN pahalaa 'k' aadhaa hai kyonki doosaraa 'k' binaa vowel lagaaye likhaa hai. Vyanjan 'n' pooraa hai kyonki usake turant baad koi vyanjan nahee hai. Shabd ke aakhiree vyanjan ko pooraa uchchaarit kiyaa jaataa hai sivaay vyanjan 'N' ke. Shabd ke aakhir meiN likhaa 'N' done aadhe vyanjan (yahaaN, kyoN) aur poore vyanjan ( , ) ke rup meiN proyog hotaa hai. d) Doosare shabd 'sambandh' meiN vyanjan 'm' aur 'n' aadhe haiN kyonki agale vyanjab unake baad binaa kisee vowel ke aaye haiN. Hindi bhaashaa meN, aadhey vyanjan 'n' aur 'm' ko line ke upar bindee lagaakar bhee likhaa jaa sakataa hai jaisaa ki udaaharaN men likhaa gayaa hai. Aadhe likhe vyanjan kaa uchchaaraN bhee aadhaa hotaa hai aur pooraa vyanjan pooraa uchchaarit kiyaa jaata hai. Hindi ko Angrejee akSharoN meiN likhane meN, aadhe aur poore vyanjan meiN antar karane ke liye, hamane 'a' ko vyanjano ke baad (jahaaN koi doosare vowel kee jaroorat nahee hai) usake poore uchchaaraN ke liye likhaa hai (Apvaad shabd kaa aakhiree vyanjan). 2. Do baar 'aa'- ' ' ke uchchaaraN ke liye likhaa hai (Angrejee shabd 'Bar' meiN 'aa' kaa uchchaaraN hotaa hai isaliye Hindi meiN 'Baar' likhaa hai) aur akela 'a' do vyanjano ke beech meiN us vyanjan ke poore uchchaaraN meiN madad karataa hai jo 'a' se turant pahale aayaa hai jaise padhanaa - 'Dh' pooraa uchchaarit huaa hai aur 'n' ke baad 'aa' joDaa hai atah isakaa uchchaaraN hoga 'naa'. 3. Vowel 'e' vyanjan ke baad ' ' kee dhwanee degaa jaise English shabd - Sent, Debit, Credit, Sentiment aur Hindi shabd - Khel, Se, Ne, Le, Lekin. 4. Kripaya capital meiN likhe (d,D, dh, Dh, t, T, th, TH, N, S) akSharo par dhyaan dijiye. Capital akShar alag dhwanee detaa hai. Angrejee meiN vaakya kaa pahalaa akShar Capital hotaa hai aur Hindi ke liye bhee hamane vaakya ke pahale akShar ke liye Capital akShar kaa prayog kiyaa hai. 5. Apvaad : Naam & Engish shabd jo ham English meiN prayog karate haiN - InheN English bhaashaa kee tarah likhaa hai. Doosare apvaad shabd taalikaa meiN diye huay hai. TOP
